The Moorings Habitat Partnership

The Moorings’ tradition of partnership with Indian River Habitat began in 1999 when a group of Moorings residents decided to take action in support of working families struggling with inadequate and increasingly, unaffordable housing. To engage the entire community, the group of volunteers established The Moorings Classic Weekend, a unique event of sports related and other fun activities that culminates in a dinner party every year on President’s Day.

Financial contributions received from The Moorings include a portion of state sales tax collections redirected by The Moorings Yacht & County Club to Habitat through a State of Florida community development program specifically geared toward supporting affordable housing initiatives. This past season alone, residents and The Club together raised more than $800,000 in support of Indian River Habitat for Humanity.

The success of this partnership would not be possible without the support of Craig Lopes, General Manager and CEO of The Moorings Club. Along with his team, Craig is eager to support the causes and issues that matter to residents and members at The Moorings.

As of June 2024, the Moorings community has collectively built 90 Habitat homes with funds raised through the annual Moorings Classic Weekend. In addition to building new homes, the Moorings community also gives to Habitat’s home repair program, as well as the Scholarship Program for Habitat homeowners and their children.
