Serving Those Who Serve Us

On Veterans Day, and every day, it is our privilege to remember and honor those who have given so much to us and the country we proudly call home.

Indian River Habitat is proud to be among those Habitat for Humanity Affiliates across the country that annually commit themselves to specialized outreach and programming specifically geared toward military families.

According to the National Low Income Housing Coalition, 2.5 million veteran headed households are at least 55 years of age. Of these 2.5 million veterans, 24 percent report having a housing cost burden, and are also more likely to have a disability that requires home modifications to address their needs and improve accessibility.

At Habitat for Humanity, we work to address and provide housing solutions and volunteer opportunities to veteran and military families through a national initiative we call Veterans Build. To collaborate and leverage services in Indian River County, we partner closely with several local organizations to include the Veterans Council, Upward American Veterans, and American Legion Post 189.

Programming specifically targeted toward veteran and military families is offered through funding from the Home Depot Foundation. Home repair and home preservation projects provided include roof work, air conditioner replacement, ramp installation, accessibility improvements, as well as exterior paint and/or landscaping.

Please join us in our efforts of serving those who have served us.
