Dyer - All in the Family

Prior to moving to Vero Beach, Colleen Bethel and her 4-year old daughter, Addison, experienced a brief period of “homelessness.” Colleen was grateful for the support she and her daughter received from friends, but was eager to find a solution and establish security for her family.

Colleen eventually moved into a 2-bedroom apartment rental, but still needed a roommate to help cut costs.

In June last year, Colleen was overjoyed when she learned that her application had been approved and she had been accepted into Indian River Habitat’s affordable homeownership program. Finally, she would have a forever home she and Addison could call their own!

Colleen’s next goal – her Wall Raising. Before a Wall Raising is scheduled, Habitat homebuyers must reach 60 percent of the “sweat equity” hours required, meet the minimum savings threshold and attend homeowner education classes.

On January 4, surrounded by her colleagues, friends and family, Colleen and Addison celebrated their Wall Raising – the ceremony that marked the official start of construction on their future home.

Among those in attendance were Dyer Auto Group General Manager Jonathan Hardie, and David F. Dyer.

For Dyer Auto Group, what began as a team building exercise has now become a passion. For over 5 years, Dyer Auto Group has faithfully partnered with Indian River Habitat, not only contributing financial support, but also giving through volunteer service.

As they’ve done many times before, the Dyer team went straight to work following Colleen’s Wall Raising. This time was particularly special – they were helping building the future home of a fellow team member.

This year, three Dyer Auto team members, to include Colleen, will finally achieve homeownership through Habitat’s affordable homeownership program.
