Capital Campaign
|
Indian River Habitat recently completed an
ambitious capital campaign to raise $2.3 Million. Thanks to the
many generous donors who made this effort possible. Special
thanks to the Campaign Chair, Bill Glavin.
To date, the Habitat Home Center has
already generated over five times the earnings projected for its
first year…enough to build 10 additional homes. This increase
will allow Indian River Habitat to meet its strategic plan of
30-45 new homes per year every year. Campaign donors
truly gave the gift that keeps on giving!

How were the capital campaign
funds be used?
Land
Acquisition
In 2003, we purchased an 8-acre parcel of land
on US 1 North just past the intersection with 45th Street.
The campus now includes our office, warehouse, Home Center, and
volunteer RV hookups.
Warehouse
Expansion
An existing
5,000 square foot warehouse has been expanded to 10,000 square feet.
The construction staff uses part of this area for storage of materials
used to build our homes. The additional area is used for prefabrication
during hot summer months and rainy days.
Home
Center Construction
With a goal to build
30 homes per year,
we needed another means of raising funds. Construction began on the
Home Center in the fall of 2004. Upon completion in summer 2005, the new
30,000 square foot facility
included a 10,000
square foot storage and preparation area and a 20,000 square foot retail
sales area. Donated building supplies, appliances, furnishings, and more
are
sold in the store.

RV Care-A-Vanner Site Construction
Throughout the year, dedicated volunteers,
often retirees, travel the country in RVs building Habitat homes.
Indian River Habitat is a popular stop on these trips. With funds from
the Capital Campaign, an area sufficient for visiting RVs was created.
The improved facility has increased our RV volunteer hours to at least
12,000 this year. |
