Volunteer Spotlight

Jobsite volunteers love our Habitat Food Angels!

Habitat volunteers arrive on the jobsite faithfully each day at 7:30 a.m., dedicated to helping our families work toward a home of their own. The work is often hard, the weather is often hot and, by 10 a.m., these volunteers can work up a pretty big appetite. And that's where the Habitat Food Angels come in. The Food Angels are every volunteer's Favorite Volunteer because they bring delicious treats to the jobsite. The snacks are often homemade and can include  everything from loaves of fresh bread to sandwiches and fruit...and sometimes there is even - CAKE!

Bob Macgowan is a faithful Food Angel, bringing snacks to the jobsite workers every Wednesday on behalf of Christ Church.  Church members help prepare such yummy treats as sausage biscuits and homemade brownies, which Bob then delivers to the eager volunteers. Needless to say, everyone looks forward to Bob's Wednesday visits!

Another dedicated Food Angel is Julie Whitney. Every Thursday, Julie sends two loaves of homemade bread to the Fellsmere jobsite with the Orchid Island volunteer crew, who are happy to share this delicious bounty with their fellow volunteers. Julie says since her hands aren't strong enough to do any actual building, she enjoys being able to help out in this way. She is so dedicated that she even baked her special vread after undergoing foot surgery!

Food Angels can provide snacks once a week, every other week or once a month. If you'd like to help but aren't able to wield a hammer or paint brush, you can be a Food Angel! Call Jessica at 772-562-9860 C212 for more information.
