Indian River Habitat for Humanity's successful Scholarship and After-School Program and Prep Club are entering their fourth year. The support of the community has enabled IRHFH to award $1,000 post-secondary education scholarships to eight students during both the 2009/2010 and 2010/2011academic years. New this year, the program has been expanded and now offers scholarships to our homeowners who wish to pursue further education. To date, one homeowner has participated in this program.
This program also provides subsidy funding for academic after-school programs. It is anticipated that 42 homeowner students will participate in the after-school program during the 2010/2011 academic year. Over the summer of 2010, 40 students participated in quality summer care programs subsidized by the IRHFH scholarship program.
Funds are raised for the Scholarship and After-School program through special events such as the HabiTrot to Higher Education 5K run/walk held each spring, the Habitat Bowl to Build tournament, and through the generosity of individuals, foundations, and businesses in the Indian River County community.
