PIRATE DAY

Costumers nabbed some great bargains during the Home Center's Talk Like A Pirate Day, with help from the friendly (motley) Home Center crew.

by Dave Sneed, Home Center Manager
Every year the annual migration of our cherished snowbirds marks the beginning of another exciting season of building homes and changing lives in our community. At the Home Center, we eagerly anticipate an increase in shoppers, enabling us to sell more stuff and help build more homes.

Exciting changes are in the works, this season, and we will need to increase our volunteer workforce to make things happen at our wonderful store. We have so much potential, but we can’t do it without you - the heart and soul of the Habitat ministry.

How much potential do I think we have? Call me crazy (it wouldn’t be the first time), but I think we can get to 2 million in gross sales per year. How long will it take? Well, I’m not ready to answer that one yet, but let’s just say sometime before I’m “called home” for now. For the record, this is the first time I have stated in writing what our “next level” goal should be. Won’t you join us? It will definitely be fun.

What are the exciting changes? To find out, you’ll have to be involved. Since we can’t do it without you, then by default, you are the excitement. Seriously.

Here are some examples of how volunteers have recently created excitement:

  1. The Tour De France group (you know who you are) recently began building new store fixtures to spice up our visual display and merchandising in the store. And they are just getting started.
  2. The yet to be named decorating gurus will be painting up these really cool new fixtures (I hope) and helping fill them with really cool stuff. If you consider yourself a decorating guru, please contact me at dsneed@irchabitat.org .
  3. And finally, recruiting maniac, Madeleine “Mad K” Kerns has been swelling the ranks of our volunteer force by conscripting Women’s Build volunteers and friends. They have been making a big difference.  Thank you all and keep up the great work!
